The first Methodist school in Shearstown was built in 1886 and used for church services until a Methodist church was completed in 1910. This was known as "The Meeting House". Men from the Church of England faith helped the Methodists cut the logs for the construction of the new church. The old United Church building was torn down in 1959 and the new building where we currently worship was completed in 1962.
On Sunday, October 21, 1962, Trinity United Church held its "Laying the Foundation Stone" service. Attending this service was Rev. A.S. Butt, Superintendent of Home Missions, Rev. A.M. Tizzard, Secretary of the Avalon Presbytery, Rev. J.B. Reynolds, minister of the church and the Right Reverend J.R. Mutchmor, Moderator. Dr. A.S. Butt delivered the sermon, after which the congregation moved outside for the laying of the stone.

The official opening and dedication of Trinity United Church was held on Sunday, February 3, 1963 by Rev. Wallace J. Baker, President of the Conference. The presiding Minister was Rev. J.B.Reynolds. Presentation of keys was by Mr. Alfred Cooper, Contractor. Central church choir, under the direction of Miss Phyllis Coppin performed the anthem. During the dedication service, the following clergy offered greetings: Rev. V.A. Smith, Rev. Dr. S. Baggs, Rev. Dr. J.L. Reynolds, Rev. T.J. Pitt, Rev. N. Winsor and Rev. Dr. A.S. Butt.
Thus far, Rev. Sharon Earle Marshall, daughter of Lucy and Bill Earle of Shearstown has been the first and only person from Trinity United Church to be ordained in the ministry of the United Church of Canada.
